Over $435,000 donated to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal

Leading WA building company the Alcock Brown-Neaves Group (ABN Group) has donated over $435,000 to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

For every home sold in Western Australia or Victoria during February 2009, the ABN Group donated $1,000 to the appeal.

ABN Group managing director Dale Alcock said $345,000 was raised through the sale of ABN Group homes last month and believes first homebuyers were the key drivers.

"Since the $21,000 first home buyer boost was introduced in October last year, we've seen about a 25 per cent increase in sales," said Mr Alcock.

"It's been a lifeline for the housing industry and has kept the home ownership dream alive for many Western Australians.   And in this case, the grant has also helped to raise some much needed funds for Australia's worst natural disaster.

"We're grateful to the Federal Government and extremely hopeful the $21,000 first home buyer boost is extended past 30 June 2009."

Adding to the new home sales, 1,200 ABN staff and families also generously donated their own money and raised a remarkable total of over $90,000.

In total, the ABN Group has pledged over $435,000 to help rebuild the lives of the victims of Victoria's tragic bushfires last month.
