APG Homes - Riviera

Kitchen Gets Top Billing

Writer:  Paula Aubin
Publication: The Sunday Times HOME magazine
Date: 21 June 2009

APG Homes is set to prove the old adage that "kitchens and bathrooms sell houses" with its new flagship double-storey display the Riviera.

Clean, classy and comfortably contemporary, this is a large family home tailor made for buyers who have an eye for detail.

"The kitchen is right up there with the finish in high-end penthouse apartments," says Leo Callisto, sales and marketing manager at APG.

Sleek and streamlined, the kitchen features a long bank of floor-to-ceiling cabinets. This houses all manner of goodies that are not only integrated into the design, but are also included in the price of the Riviera.

These include the built-in microwave and coffee machine, the fridge, the freezer and the double wall oven.

A laminated door conceals the big walk-in pantry, while a laminated cavity sliding door hides the adjoining laundry with its built-in cabinets, clothes drawer and extra worktop.

On another wall sits a contrasting cabinet configuration that includes overhead cupboards framing a window.

Also included is an integrated range hood above on of the new-style 750mm induction hot plates with touch controls.

Oversize pot drawers with barely there handles continue the smooth, modular look.

It's a similar story in the master suite where the APG design team's attention to detail has created a streamlined ensuite bathroom is as inviting as it is fuss-free.

"We tried to un-clutter the bathroom," Leo says.

As well as the frameless glass door to the shower and stone vanity top, the ensuite features a freestanding pier. Stopping short of the ceiling, it enhances the sense of space in the bathroom while providing separation for the shower.

There is also full-height wall tiling and a T-shaped window arrangement diving the twin vanities, plus a fully-fitted walk-in-wardrobe.

Throughout the Riviera, APG has demonstrated how built-in cabinets can provide definition and function, with built-in bedside tables stretching out into a dressing table unit.

There is also integrated cabinetwork in the media room, which in the display home enjoys views to the pool and has been only partly separated from the adjoining dining space.

"We wanted to demonstrate how it can work other than having a full-height wall," Leo says. "People like to have options."

The main living areas are light and open, leading out to an extended alfresco area with an island barbecue station.

Upstairs, the Riviera offers three minor bedrooms, bathroom and spacious activity area ideal for hanging out with friends, watching TV or tackling some serious study.

The wall separating the sitting area from the landing has feature cut-outs that underline the feeling of space and openness throughout the home.

"The thing I like about the Riviera is that it is really elegant and understated and people relate to that." Leo says.

The front elevation is just as enduring as the internal spaces, using a simple yet effective combination of extended balcony, blade wall and a narrow cantilevered section that visually breaks the upper and lower floors.

Making good use of the additional width of its Woodlands block, the display home benefits from a third garage.
